AEO – I like the 2 key guys. I think they are well focussed and responsive. But this is a micro cap. Buy a few shares and the price moves.
BP Marsh – I think the key people here are good. But it is the Investment Person and the FD. Not the CEO. However the company is dominated by Mr Marsh and lots that might be done cannot be given his shareholding.
Dignity – Not sure this qualifies as a team. Guy in charge came in from Phoenix the largest shareholder. Moved in to clear out the incompetents before him. Rather good presentation on both problems and opportunities (think it is available on the Dignity website), but the jury is out on whether he can implement as well as he can Powerpoint. That said he is building a team to deliver his vision and he intends to exit back to Phoenix and bring in someone else as to run the business.
Georgia Capital – I am consistently impressed by the team here. But the company is essentially an Investment Trust focussed on Georgia. I think the Chairman/CEO is top notch and also the CFO. I am also a fan of the Chief Strategy Officer. If this was in a more western economy with its assets it would be worth 2-4 times more.
MPAC – Very impressive CEO. He has made the business what it is. There are, in a number of key areas, other good managers who I have seen responding to direct queries form shareholders. Always in corporate guidelines but it is good to see managers proud of the business they are creating. Less sure about the CFO.
Randall & Quilter – Again a CEO who says what the plan is and then delivers on the plan. To be fair he is the person I have seen most and have formed an opinion on. So not sure I would say team.
Somero – This is a good team. Not sure why they are listed in the UK rather than the US. But good leadership and good CFO.
Vertu Motors – Impressive CEO and an impressive CFO. Project well as a team, which was a factor in your question. They recently did a presentation on PI World and they were far less wooden to each other than many. Though that might be because they looked to be sitting in the same office. He does have a habit of saying “that’s an interesting question” when you think he might mean – “you dummy” and she (CFO) seems to find that quite amusing. Which is nice to see. I don’t want a CFO that is kowtowing to the CEO.
I must admit I tend to be more numbers driven than personality. If the right people are there the numbers will show it. And if the wrong people are there they can fool me for longer than they can fiddle the numbers.
I do own a number of other companies below your £500m level but have no opinion on the people leading them. I just like them as they are in my opinion undervalued usually on an EPV basis.
Hope this is clear and further info please feel free to come back to me.
